What games did our readers like most from 2018?

We recently posted our 2018 year in review summary along with our favorite games of 2018. The only thing left for us is to post the results of our first ever reader poll!  We were glad to see the level of response we got, and we'll be sure to try to get better at asking questions going forward, but not bad for the first year.  (Click on game titles to read our reviews!)

Best Board Game App of 2018

The readers agree with us!  This was a close race most of the way, but One Deck Dungeon did pull away a bit near the end.  The complete top 5:

  1. One Deck Dungeon - 19%
  2. Istanbul - 14%
  3. Onitama - 12%
  4. Meteorfall - 10%
  5. Cat Lady - 6%

Note that "other" actually received 11% of the votes, but the majority of the write-in responses were games not from 2018 with a handful of "None" or "I don't play digital games" thrown in as well.

Primary Platform

This one was close the whole way, with iOS pulling it out on the last couple of days.

  1. iOS - 44%
  2. Android - 43%
  3. Mac/PC - 12%

Most Anticipated Phone/Tablet Game

The biggest takeaway for this is that there is excitement for all of the games we listed, with each of the eight receiving at least a handful of votes.  In the end, however, it was perhaps a bit of an upset to see Scythe win out over Terraforming Mars.

  1. Scythe - 22%
  2. Terraforming Mars - 17%
  3. Aeon's End - 16%
  4. Castles of Burgundy - 14%
  5. Roll for the Galaxy - 11%

Digital Board Games Purchase In 2018

This is one we had no idea what to expect.  We were very happy to see over 75% of the voters purchased at least three games in 2018.  One a few said zero.

  1. 3-5 - 37%
  2. 6-9 - 22%
  3. 10+ - 18%
  4. 1-2 - 18%
  5. 0 - 5%

Most Wanted Port

What board game would you most like to see given a digital implementation?  The answers for this were all over the place.  Many responders might be happy to learn that some of their choices were being ported.

  1. Azul
  2. Charterstone
  3. Spirit Island (coming from Handelabra, most likely in 2020)
  4. Dominion
  5. Mage Knight/Gaia Project

Favorite Board Game App

This was maybe the most interesting question on the ballot, except probably the first one.  There are dozens and dozens of apps out there, which landed at the top for our readers?
